Our last stop in Africa before heading down to South Africa, Maputo DID NOT disappoint. I didn’t think Nosy Be could be beat, but once you throw an amazing meal in the mix of my day- it tends to trump all else hahaha!!
Maputo too, was a fascinating town. So incredible how different they live their lives, their architecture, their culture- just everything. Africa is so rich in everything it is crazy how little they have and need. This town was all Portuguese, it was so cool!! We hopped right in a Tuk Tuk again and went through the whole old city of Maputo. We went to Independence Square, to their Cathedral where we were lucky to see a communion and then of course, to the market. This market not only had the normal fruits, veggies and spices- this one also had aisles and aisles of HAIR hahah da fuqqqq?!
After visiting the old town, and before we went over to the new town, we stopped at the most bizarre house ever and by the one and only man who built the Eiffel Tower! This guy, out of nowhere, just decided to build an iron house in the middle of Maputo- like wtf?! Just some random iron house haha. It was cool though, and right in front of these cool new buildings they were building and right next to the botanical garden- he definitely was crazy, but knew what paradise was!!
New town time and of course my favorite- FOOD TIME!! We stopped at this little area to do bit of local shopping. There were these great stands all in this huge piece of open land full of pure wood pieces, handmade purses & clothing and all kinds of colorful statues & sculptures. I even bought a wooden bowl with the matching wooden salad spoons haha- when in Africa right?
On to my faaavorite part- the food!! This was the highlight of the day because honestly, I never expected to eat this amazing in a place like Maputo. This trip hasn’t been as culinary as I thought so I was soooo excited for this!! Pops came to this little restaurant 2 years ago and had a picture only of this fish plate with grilled seafood on it, on a table with a blue table cloth. I googled my life away for hours to figure out what restaurant this was and some how my amazing detective skills worked!! I found it- it is a Brazilian seafood spot names Sagres and holy shizzzz it was BOMB!!!!
Thank you Thank you Maputo for the most amazing day and the most amazing lunch!! I cannot wait to return and cure my “Mal d’Africa!”
