Malaysia: A beautiful, characteristic, culinary, and just plain amazing country. Penang is a small vacation spot for the people who live in the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lampur and is also known as the Culinary Capital of Malaysia- and they are very accurate! Kuala Lampur is also a very magical city; a lot like Singapore with their architecture, malls and food courts but KL & Penang have more of a warm, rustic feel/vibe to it.
The best way to get to KL & Penang, is on a cruise- they’re both stops and you spend the whole day in each. Click the links to start shopping for your next Asian Adventure!! Princess is always my favorite!
The day in Kuala Lampur: I would recommend spending it around the Petronas Twin Towers. They have a whole mall inside that you can walk through, food courts that have unlimited restaurants. They also have outdoor fountains to walk along. The Petronas is also a theatre and the towers are the 2nd tallest Towers in the world. The view from below is Incredible. After The Petronas, you can make your way over to the large outdoor Bandar Market for all kinds of food and souvenirs!! To get to the market, you can take a red taxis; watch out for the blue taxis as they rip you off! Once you are back from the market, please go back inside The Petronas to enjoy a small snack before you go! Up to the food court, find “Humble Blessings” and try the most AMAZING layer crepe cake in the world!

Penang TIME!!! There is a lot to do so let me guide you….
When you get to Penang, the very first thing I would recommend is, walking down Georgetown to bask in the scenery of this little town which is a gem. Then make your way over to Armenia Street for all the street art, street foods (that is amazing) and for a little shopping. Don’t be scared of the street food, it is what they are known for all over Asia- and Hey! I’m still here aren’t I? haha Live a little!
Put Armenia Street on hold for a moment now- you will be back there for lunch, and make your way over to the most memorable temples you will ever see in your life. The first temple to see (always in Georgetown) is.. you ready for this?? Wat Chaiyamangalaram Temple which is a gorgeous Thai Temple with an incredible reclining Buddha and in the same area, the second temple, Dhammikarama Burmese Temple which is a temple for both Buddhist and a Burmese religions. This temple has a huge standing Buddha which is so breathtaking, you have to sit and give thanks.
Now the 3rd temple- the most spectacular sight I have ever seen, is the Kek Lok Si Temple in Air Itam, Penang- this is only about a 15 minute drive from Georgetown and Malaysia too has Uber!! This temple overlooks all of Penang and I am so grateful for this scenery- the pictures speak for themselves and it is a temple that is NOT to be missed. If you don’t have too much time in Penang and don’t want to roam around temples- this one is sufficient enough!!
Now, after you are temple’d out haha because I know I was! You can grab an Uber and start heading back down toward Armenia Street. On the way, if you want, you can make a pit stop to see the Palace of Istana Negra which is where the Malaysian Monarch resides. If not, straight to Armenia Street for last minute food and the best part? Get a nice massage. You can’t leave any part of Asia without a massage!!
Thank you Malaysia for an incredible experience for my mind, my soul, my eyes and my belly 🙂
