First spot in South Africa and one I will never forget.
Just like everyone in the world, there are always scarier parts of towns than others and as beautiful as it is, there are still so many rivalries from the past that haunt us all. We drove through the town, and we had to drive first through the not so great part before getting to the better parts. What struck me the most was how big this city was and also how dirty and poor it unfortunately was as well. The strangest thing was when I heard out tour guide actually tell us that white people were just not welcome in this particular part of town… first time in my life I actually experience the horrid side of our past. The blacks didn’t want the whites around and if they saw them walking in their area, they would try to mug and rob them. It was insane to see that these things still go on- and she was right, not ONE white person.Luckily things got better once we drove more through the city and that’s when I started to fall in love with South Africa. The mountains and green hills, these beautiful little Dutch homes and the wines they produce!! Durban is such a fascinating town!! After about an hour driving through these amazing towns and hills, we reached our incredible destination!
“Valley of a Thousand Hills” and it was! It really was!
After soaking in all this beautiful scenery surrounding me- we went and visited the ZulĂș Village where they sang and danced for us đ It was magical. To see how the African people used to live (and still do live) was incredible. They took us into their home, showed us their huts and how they live- it was seriously memorable with all the colors and the painted faces, there are really no words to describe this. Check out the highlights section of My Instagram too to see all the videos of the ZulĂș tribe and their beautiful performances!!
What a surreal experience here in Durban, one I am so glad I got to experience. It teaches me to love all and really be happy for everything I have in my life. Thank you Durban and the ZulĂș Tribe for having us!
