- Casa Oaxaca El Restaurant – The #3 restaurant on TripAdvisor and it is one NOT to be missed.
I would actually go to this restaurant first!! It has the cutest entrance in this little blue building on the street. You can sit in the main dining rooms with clean white walls or go upstairs to their patio that overlooks the city. Act fast though because sometimes it is impossible to get a table!! What a place.

This gorgeous, gorgeous restaurant- just when you thought you liked Oaxaca, Casa Oaxaca makes you absolutely fall in LOVE! This restaurant shows you what the city is all about. This is the first restaurant I have ever tried out here and it continues to be my favorite.
First you have your Grilled Octopus– of course with the perfect pinch of Pasilla, Olive Oil and cooked to absolute perfection. It was crispy..
Then the coolest plate I have ever seen!! This smokey thing made its way to my table and I’m like “What on earth is happening here?!” Smoked up the whole walkway hahaha. These Grilled Wild Mushrooms from the mountains of Oaxaca were sitting on rocks, ROCKS! and cooking their way to perfection. It was so amazing, the presentation and the taste..the taste, aaahhh to die for. They were seasoned with a pinch of salt- that’s it. The flavor was purely the mushrooms of this amazing country.
Talk about these rocks?? The Hot Stone Fish Soup has 2 enormous volcanic rocks in them haha! Check out the video above.. its so awesome! They brought us over this bowl with chunks of Scallops, Shrimp, White Fish and Seasonal Vegetables along with a huge carafe and another bowl of boulders – it was so weird, again I’m like “WTF is happening? Are they putting rocks in the soup?” Luckily I try everything! And they did!! They placed the rocks in the bowl of raw items, then pour the soup in. It was so freaking good- the heat of the volcanic rocks cooked the soup to perfection- and of course, the finishing touch of some Pasilla! Incredible.
After that soup, I didn’t think it was possible to try something so good, until the next 2 items came. First was the Sea Bass Ceviche that had such a great citrus twist to it. It was a fresh explosion which was perfect after that volcanic soup I just had. The Ceviche was perfect- seasoned with avocado, celery root, pomegranate seeds, lemon and Olive Oil. A little pineapple garnish to finish it off- the perfect summer plate that again, you can also make at home!
Now last, but certainly not least, The Duck Tacos with a homemade Green Chili dipping sauce. It was the perfect ending to a perfect dinner (no dessert- none was even needed after that meal!!). The duck was so tender it melted in your mouth and all you could taste was that, and a beautiful concoction of Pasilla chili- plus that dipping sauce?! HEAVEN.
Thank you Casa Oaxaca for the most memorable dinner of the trip- you never disappoint!
Now go go go book your flight to Oaxaca now!
